The promised Update on Maria
July 17, 2010 - 05:09 PM
An update for those who are still following this made for television drama. Maria’s stent replacement was postponed and will now be taking place on July 19th. We’re still trying to get her pain managed and hopefully with this stent replacement, the pain will subside a bit more. She still has a mild infection and we think it’s from the stents. She is also getting fitted for a compression stocking this week to help with her deep vein thrombosis. The bad news is that even though all these other problems are workable her cancer has grown. She’s going back into chemo therapy, different drugs then her previous treatment and hopefully she will respond well and we can start shrinking some of the main tumors.
The main problem with her pain is, there are nerve clusters in each hip which are fed by a main artery with many branches going to these nerve clusters. Picture if you will, pulling up a tree and looking at the roots, those roots are the veins and underneath those roots are the nerve clusters. Unfortunately a tumor has grown in between those roots and on top of the nerve clusters, in both hips, hence the pain and vascular problems. All we can do at this point is try to keep the pain under control and pray that the new chemo works better than the last.
